Valentine’s day is right around the corner. It’s fun playing dress up whether you are gung-ho about the holiday with your honey, or plan on celebrating with a bottle of wine. Picking an outfit for this day can be fun and easy without causing heart palpitations. I may have chosen to go all out, pink everything, but you don’t have to. There is an understated way to nod at the holiday without looking like a Papier–mâché heart.
A pop of color; red or pink under a black sweater or blouse is the perfect place to start. With slacks or dark wash denim, this is the type of thing you would wear to work during this special day.
Let’s just put it out there, this cutsey outfit stuff isn’t for everybody. If this is the case for you, take a neutral outfit like a black dress, and wear it with a great pair of red heels or a red purse. Sometimes it is easier to let the accessories do the talking.
For a possible day date? A casual dress, with a sweater or denim jacket is the way to go. It is flirty and girly while still being comfortable and not too revealing. I chose a pink tank dress with a skater skirt. The skirt is flouncy so it will move beautifully as you walk. The neckline is a bit on the higher side which makes it appropriate for daytime. It is still adorable without sleeves, but not showing too much. I believe this outfit would be the perfect match for a potential new romance.
When going out on the town for time with your love, a girls night out, or anything in between, a flirty cocktail dress will do the trick. I usually opt for darker colors when I decide to hit the town. However, my choice for this night in particular? This pale pink, lace, bodycon dress. Yes, the cut is a bit on the risque side and possibly not for everybody, but the color makes it less intimidating. The lighter shade doesn’t make it seem as daring as it would be in black. The lace is delicate and will remind us of those doily hearts we got in grade school. Together all of these components create a gentler take on a cocktail dress. I pair it with nude strappy stilettos to cut the pink and not be overly pink. A dainty tennis bracelet completes the look due to it’s matching feminine appearance (left).
Is ALL of this making you roll your eyes? If you have no intention of planning a specific outfit for a holiday, a red lip or manicure will work just fine!
Whether you think this is a hallmark holiday or you can’t wait to celebrate, there is an appropriate outfit out there for you.
