Highlighting is the trend that everybody cannot seem to get enough of lately. I must admit I am apart of the fan club myself. The act of “highlighting” in make-up is applying a light reflective product on the high points of your face (cheekbones, nose, cupids bow etc). I am so excited to add the Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter to my collection!
Let’s get to the product review:
This highlighter is incredible, it really is. The shade is a beautiful rose gold which compliments my light skin well, but I think it would suit a great deal of other skin tones as well. It is very pigmented and creates an almost metallic glow when applied. It of course can be applied strong or more sheer depending on how much you blend it in. The consistency is thin and very much “gel” like, hence the name. It blends nicely into the skin and on top of other products. It does not mess up and move around any foundation or powder you wear under it. It works well when applied as a pin pointed highlighter. I apply all my cream items then this product and then all my powders which includes a powder highlighter. This does seem like a silly added step when I do such a long routine but it makes your highlight strong and long-lasting due to the double layering.
My favorite way to wear this product? Under my foundation! I apply this right after my primer and before my foundation. I spread it all over my face which truly does make your skin glow. I then apply my foundation and the rest of my makeup and this step makes my skin look luminous all day, as if I am lit from within. I love using this product in this manner, and this is how I plan to use it from here on out. Due to the consistency you only need a tiny bit to cover a large area, so this highlighter will last me a long time!
I am a huge fan of the packaging, the bottle is gorgeous. It is made of hefty glass and has a modern appearance, so it looks fantastic on my vanity! A slightly silly reason to like a product, I know, but I truly do get suckered in by packaging. It also comes with a pump, thank goodness, I cannot stand to use any bottle that doesn’t have a pump.
I received this product complimentary from Influenster.com. Influenster is a terrific resource for bloggers or anybody, it sends you products in exchange for an honest review. The best part? Influenster is 100% free!! The more you review products the more likely you are to receive products. I have gotten some fantastic items from this site (you can also download an app for your phone). My favorites being this lipliner here and this liquid lipstick here. Both of these products are also from Marc Jacobs and pretty stinkin’ great (I am sensing a trend here). This brand can set you back a pretty penny so receiving them for free for reviewing purposes is amazing. If you would like to know more about Infuenster and my experience using it, just leave me a comment down below. I know it seems to good to be true, but I promise you it isn’t and I highly recommend you sign up!
Overall I am pleased with this product! It is a beautiful shade so if you love champagne-y highlighters then this is a great choice. I think it performs well and feels very high-end and expensive. I am not 100% sure it is worth the $44 price tag and I am sure you could find a less expensive dupe, but I am very happy that I have it in my collection now. If you are looking to treat yourself and highlighters are your forte then I believe this is the perfect product for you!
